It's amazing to me how much time my husband will spend getting ready to play guitar, or talking about playing guitar, or planning what to practice when he's practicing guitar, so he doesn't end up just noodling around without practicing something specific and accomplishing some kind of goal.
Me, I think he should just pick up the damn guitar and play.
Apparently I don't know much about guitars or music (not unlikely).
But I do get frustrated because I know how much he enjoys playing guitar. I guess I should just help him, by reminding him how much time has passed since he sat down at the computer, and honey, weren't you going to practice tonight? He is a smart fellow, and just nagging him is only going to give us both headaches. So, I just need to be gentle and patient, and nudge him towards picking up his guitar, so he can do things in his own way in his own time. That way the music he makes will be his own --- and that, my friends, is the most beautiful kind of music.
And I really do like to listen to Steve's music; it comes from the heart... and touches mine.

SQUIRREL! - or - The Wisdom of Dogs and Children.
Wisdom is separate from intelligence, but related.
A dog or a kid can be wise without being intelligent - giggling at soap bubbles, cooing at grandma's silly faces, barking at strangers, chasing after squirrels - because although you've never caught one, there's always a first time, and damn, it's fun to try, anyway. Intelligence has to do with recognizing why those things are so fun, so precious - joy without pretensions, communication without judgement, protecting your home & loved ones from dangers, pursuing your dreams despite what others might say.
The next time your not sure of your choices, or your course of action, ask yourself, would, could a toddler be comfortable doing this? Could a little kid understand my motivations? Is this being true to myself? What are the things I truly care about? How is this going to bring about the change I want to see in the world?
